Why Sedans are Practical Cars

Sedans are the most common body type for automobiles. It is a passenger car that has a three-box configuration, separating the engine, passenger and compartment. The word ‘sedan' is derived from a Southern Italian dialect, meaning ‘covered chair on poles'. In the United Kingdom, sedan is referred to as ‘saloon', and in France, ‘berline'.

Sedans feature a two row passenger seat. They can carry a maximum of five passengers including the driver. There are different types of sedans invented by many manufacturers – notchback, fastback, two-door, hardtop, hatchback, and chauffeured. Usually, the notchback refers to the unique rear window shape of the car. The notchback with its long hood and short deck was popular in the ‘60s.

A fastback sedan incorporates a rooftop that slopes smoothly down at the back. They are usually seen in the early two-door coupés and four-door sedans. Two-door sedans or coupés have close-coupled interior. A two-door sedan is defined by its appearance and performance. Nowadays, two-door sedans are used as sports cars. Hardtop sedans have frameless windows. In the early ‘60s and ‘70s, they were sold as sports sedans and they varied from detachable, retractable and pillar-less hardtop styles.

Hatchback sedans are common nowadays. They are typically modern, fastback sedans with trunk lids that can be lifted up. They can also be referred to as ‘five-door sedans'. Hatchback sedans are commonly found in car dealer shops that sell both brand new and used cars. Santa Ana, California's many car dealers sell them in affordable prices. Chauffeured sedans, however, have a separate compartment for the passenger and the driver. It is usually used by the rich and famous, and are often called ‘limousines'.

Since sedans are very common, a large number of sedans are sold as used cars. Santa Ana entrepreneurs prefer sedans over SUVs or CUVs because they allow easy maneuvering and they do not require a big parking space. They look corporate, professional, and sporty at the same time.

Whether these sedans are brand new or used cars. Santa Anacar experts believe that they can offer car buyers with better mileage. Sedans are more fuel-efficient than vans and SUVs. Manufacturers also include better safety features for sedan cars because they are often used by families. Sedans are practical because they offer easy-driving, better mileage and spacious interior.
