Binocular Shoulder Harness
Here’s the scoop, a binocular shoulder harness is the only way to go. The word ‘harness’ has many connotations. Usually people think of animal harnesses for horses or dogs when they hear the word. That will change after you use a binocular shoulder harness only one time.
The binocular shoulder harness is a strapping system designed to not only carry your binoculars, but also cameras as well. Typically, they are adjustable so that you can wear them regardless of how many clothing layers you are or are not wearing.
The difference between a binocular shoulder harness and a regular strap that comes with your optics is how it is worn. They both accomplish the same fundamental need which is to be able to carry it around without literally needing to hold it with your hands. There are some basic differences between the binocular shoulder harness and the singular generic strap.
Some of the basic differences include the weight distribution and the overall safety and protection for your optics. Comfort is a big difference that should be seriously considered as you chose between a binocular shoulder harness and a generic neck strap. For an hour or two, you will not have a difficult time with the generic neck strap. However, if you are moving actively or wearing it for any longer then you will have a problem.
The weight distribution with a binocular shoulder harness is evenly distributed over your chest, back and shoulders. Because optics are not incredibly heavy to begin with, you will not even feel the strain of the optics like you do with a generic neck strap. All of the weight is taken off of your neck, so you forget you even have them.
What is wonderful about a binocular shoulder harness, though, is the fact that when you need your optics, they are right there at your fingertips. You can grab them and pull them up to our eyes with only a few seconds notice. That is really all you can ask for from a binocular shoulder harness.
