Golf the Hot Hatch of The Year
The VW Golf has won many awards in its long and illustrious history, this year it has won the "hot Hatch of the Year" Top Gear award. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were at hand to present the award. The Volkswagen Golf R takes the TopGear crown from the <a href="http://www.silverstreetautomotive.com/volkswagen/new-cars-new/view/527">Volkswagen Golf GTI in Taunton</a> which won the Hot Hatch category in 2009
The Volkswagen Golf R was singled out amongst strong competition within the category. The Golf R was chosen because of its mix of dynamic ability, its powerful and charismatic engine and everyday refinement. The Golf R was described as being extraordinarily good at so many things.
VW Head of Marketing and communications picked up the much coveted award and said, "This is the third generation of Golf R and the fastest and most focused yet; we designed it to appeal to keen drivers exactly like the judges at TopGear. On behalf of Volkswagen and Volkswagen R it's a real honour for the Golf to be recognised with such an award."
The Golf R is powered by VW's 2.0 litre TSI engine which produces 270bhp and 350Nm of torque, to aid power delivery the Golf R comes with a sophisticated 4MOTION system. The hot hatch can do 0-62 mph in 5.5 seconds, this makes it the fastest ever production Golf.
To match the extra power, the Volkswagen Golf R features a series of upgrades to its springs, dampers, gearbox software, braking system and styling to ensure that it both looks and feels sharper than the standard car.
