Add Curb Appeal with Front Exterior Doors
The front door can add a lot of visual appeal to a home. Because it is the first thing most people see when they enter the home, it can set a visitor's expectations as to what the home will look like on the inside. This is why real estate agents often recommend front exterior doors as a "must-have" upgrade for those who are looking to sell their home. When a home has an attractive and well-maintained entryway, people just naturally have a more positive opinion about the house.
Aesthetic appearance is often one of the main criteria when selecting a new door, since the correct door has the ability to change the overall appearance of a home. Of course, functionality, energy efficiency and security are also important features, but many people rank appearance, style and overall attractiveness as the most important factors when selecting a door.
When choosing front exterior doors, it is also important to pay attention to the material from which they are made. Different door materials can have markedly different visual appearances, which can add or detract from the beauty of your home. If you are looking for a beautiful high-end door, it is hard to beat the visual appeal of fine wood. Although finished wood doors require more maintenance than other styles, they can add a look of grace, style and charm to the home which is difficult to match with other door materials. Fine wood doors can be even more beautiful when combined with glass panels, often referred to as side lights.
Depending on the style of the door, these glass panels can be installed on either side and over the top of the door, adding an attractive and artistic look to the home. Glass panels also serve a useful purpose, allowing more natural sunlight to enter the home. There are also tinted glass panels and those made from beautiful stained glass, which can add beauty while still providing privacy. However, large glass panels are not recommended if security is a primary concern, since glass can make it easier for break-ins and vandalism to occur.
Steel and fiberglass front exterior doors are also excellent choices. Fiberglass doors can be painted or stained, providing an appearance that often closely resembles real wood. Fiberglass and steel are also very strong and can provide good insulation and security for the home. If you are on a tight budget, steel doors are often the best choice since they are usually less expensive. Although they cannot be stained, they are easy to paint. A steel door usually has an insulated core, making it very energy efficient. Although energy efficiency might not be your primary concern when choosing a door, you will appreciate the feature when it comes time to pay your home heating bill.
