Comfort Aire Dehumidifier Review - One of the Best Dehumidifiers Yet to be Discovered
When we go looking for a new dehumidifier what names are on our lips? Frigidaire, Danby, GE, Kenmore, Haier and LG perhaps? Well, I'm going to share a little secret with you and I really don't want you to tell anybody; I'm worried about injury to sales assistants in the rush. We should all be softly mouthing...ssshh "Comfort Aire".
The Comfort Aire Dehumidifier is a gem amongst a mound of pebbles, a dehumidifier hard to find but well worth the effort. I guess this must seem like a strange sort of dehumidifier review? Isn't the reviewer supposed to reel off a whole load of "features" to get across the benefits of ownership? Well, if I must.
Comfort Aire Dehumidifiers have an adjustable humidistat, auto-restart, auto-defrost, a programmable timer, continuous drainage, a washable air filter, electronic controls, two fan speeds and so on but, that is how they are the same as other dehumidifiers not why they are different.
And the difference is...? Users just love them! Why? Because they do what a dehumidifier is supposed to do but they do it without annoying people.
Anyone who knows anything about dehumidifiers knows they are among the most annoying home appliances ever invented. Even people who swear by their dehumidifier, who couldn't live without it, find them annoying. The pesky little blighters have two annoying tricks. They make a noise, an annoying noise, just like the cleaner who does a perfect job of cleaning but just has to sing, loudly and out of tune, while he's doing it. They also play practical jokes. They let you take out the bucket but they snatch at it as it leaves the machine, so the water spills on your shoes. When you go to replace it they make the slot a little smaller, and warp it, so you can't get it back in without a struggle.
The Comfort Aire Dehumidifier is not annoying, its behaviour is impeccable. It helps you with the bucket by providing a couple of guide-tracks which make removal and replacement a breeze. As for noise, well it does sing, all dehumidifiers sing, but it sings softly and although not tuneful it does, at least, keep an even tempo.
The serious point of this review is that the Comfort Air Dehumidifier is a high quality product. It makes less noise than other dehumidifiers because it is soundly built. A good deal of the annoyance that users experience is caused not by the volume of the noise from the components but by secondary vibration from poorly fitting parts and avoidable irritants, such as whining fans.
Sound construction and good quality components eliminate a lot of this noise. The bucket is easy to remove and replace because it is soundly designed, as are, for example, the controls which users find very simple and intuitive.
Users compare the water removal capability of this dehumidifier with others they have owned and find it to be better. They also report that it is more energy efficient than other dehumidifiers they have used. The life time cost of running a dehumidifier usually exceeds the purchase price by a considerable margin so energy efficiency is more important than the ticket price when choosing a dehumidifier.
High build quality and thoughtful, user focused design take effort and money and it will come as no surprise that the Comfort Aire Dehumidifier is more expensive than some of its better known competitors. I have shared my little "secret" but what is not a secret is that, in this world, you get what you pay for.
