A Gamer’s World

Since the magic days of the 8-bit Nintendo EntertainmentNES video games have endowed humans of all ages and ethnicities with hours of unrivaled leisure. The world of games, or ‘wasting time’, as some may think, has evolved rapidly and continues to fly onward. The extensive medley of gaming platforms offered by electronic manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers give gamers many ways to flee the tension brought on by lessons, work or common life in general. Despite their connotation as being unproductive and outright addictive, video games give our noggins a hard-earned reprieve from the headache of the day and haveintertwined themselves into the very structure of our customs. But what exactly makes them so enjoyable? The bombing? The trick? The suspense of‘leveling up’? As is the story with music and cuisine, different games appeal to different human beings. And recent days, the choices offered to consumers are broader and more assorted than ever before.

Epic platformers such as Super Mario, Kirby and Sonic the Hedgehog have incited many an adrenaline rush and left many game controllers with sweaty and damaged buttons. Such action-oriented experience test not only a person’s timing and reflexes, but his or her fortitude too. Traditional series such as The Legend of Zelda and the aforementioned Mario are always among the first to penetrate the slots of the hottest consoles and cycle frequently through the inventories of manufacturers, electronic wholesalers and retailers. And while revolutions in graphics and video quality have stripped some series of their unforgettable ‘retro’appeal, they haveirrefutably aggrandized their enjoyableness, or, as enthusiastic players would tell, their ‘sickness’.

Today, role-playing games possiblely boast the biggest and most mixed following of any genre. ‘Leveling up’ and gaining new abilities are the calling cards of such time-consuming titles as Final Fantasy and Nintendo’s most important player, Pokemon. The chief reason for the success of these games is the truth that there is ‘always something to do’, even after the player beats the principal storyline. As such, the game can neveractually be ‘beat’. Many games of this genre, such as the addicting World of Worldcraft, allow players to chat, battle and relate with one another on internet, allowing even the mostintractable introverts to meet and talk with human beings from all over the globe.

Much like the games that run on them, gaming platforms themselves also come in many models, and likewise cater to mixed groups of human beings. While systems such as Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 provide a valuable gaming experience at home, large amount of people, mainly young gamers, desire the simplicity and portability of handheld systems such as the PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and even Apple’s iPhone and iPod. These pockets ofentertainment areuseful in alleviating the boredom of a cross-country road trip or airplane ride from New York to Tokyo. Laptops, chiefly miniscule varieties like the new netbooks enable a slightly bulkier, but stillhandykey to monotonous travel. The prize for ‘most special gaming system’ irrefutably goes to the Nintendo Wii. Innovative motion-sensing technology adds another catagoryelement of realism and makes Nintendo’s latest platform a multi-purpose machine. Many names such as DanceDanceRevolution and Wii Fit allowplayers to not only have fun, but get a energizing workout as well. The sheer popularity of the console triggered a dearth of Wiis in the wholesale electronics industry—a dearth thatcooked gamers’ bloods even more than apreposterously tough boss.

As a partion of comtemporary customs, video games have given and continue to provide gamers an break from the severity of life. Themultitude of games and consoles in the stocks of manufacturers, electronic wholesalers and retailers make sure that no one is left without an enjoyable game to be addicted to. notable features such as online connectivity, voice recognition, motion sensory and touch screens have redefined the universe of gaming since the cheerful days of 8-bits and two dimensions. We can only imagine what strides the future will bring.
